Seven days in rallycross, December 19

The quietest weeks of the rallycross season have been punctuated by a few points of interest, the most important of which is Alexander Hvaal’s move from Hansen Motorsport to PSRX where he will join Petter Solberg in a two-car attack on the 2014 FIA World Rallycross Championship.

With its 2013 racecar being rebuilt and a new Citroen DS3 under construction, PSRX has stolen a march on its rival by being the first team to confirm its driver lineup for 2014. The team, based at Torsby in Sweden, has what it describes as a ‘Norwegian dream team’ in Solberg and Hvaal. A winner of two events in 2013, Hvaal’s second full European Supercar season saw him deliver on the promise shown in 2012 and turn his undoubted speed into results and event victories. “If you want to become the best driver, you have to aim high and learn from the best driver there is,” said Hvaal “Now I’m getting my chance with Petter Solberg. The 2014 season will be a crucial year for my future career. I feel very honoured and privileged to take on such an important role in the world’s best and most professional rallycross team.”

The expansion to two cars is a big move for Solberg and his PSRX squad and will also be the first time that Solberg has directly mentored a young driver. “There’s undoubtedly a lot of talent in Alexander. On top of that, he is a very likeable and humble person. With enough time and opportunity to learn, I’m sure he’s set for a very successful future in rallycross,” he said.

Meanwhile All-Inkl Munnich Motorsport continued its testing programme with the new Audi A3 with a successful run at Loheac in France, the Audi already having been run at Sosnova in the Czech Republic.

Loheac was also recently the venue for Liam Doran to get his winter testing on track, the Englishman maxing out his time at the track and running into dusk, see the this amazing launch video.

Mats Ohman is to take part in the Rally X Supercar Scandinavia series that runs alongside the STCC in 2014. Ohman will use his familiar Volvo S40 in the five-event series that packahges rallycross events of Supercars and Supercar Lites with four rounds of the STCC and a single standalone evening event at Strangnas.
