First champion

Andreas Bakkerud had to wait a little longer than expected, but by qualifying for the A final in this afternoon’s Polish round of the European Rallycross Championship he has put his name to the 2011 Super1600 title.
“That was hard work, specially after the bad second heat, but now I’ve done. I am the champion!” said Bakkerud as the army of fans here from Norway from the event celebrated the success they came to see. “I only needed to be in the A final to be champion so now I’m there it is just a race and I’m going to go for it, no pressure, just drive,” said Bakkerud.
Jussi Pinomäki’s Set Promotion team celebrated its second straight title in Super 1600 (it won last year with Timur Timerzyanov) and immediately set to work transforming Bakkerud’s ‘baby blue’ Clio into a chariot of gold.
