Johansson making progress

Super1600 DS3 clears tech problems.

David Johansson’s season has started. After a torrid time in England for the young Swede, where he was unable to start after misinterpretation of the rules didn’t allow him any further than scrutineering, he has been back home to re-design the rear floor of the car and is back in the ERC this weekend.

The IGM built car is the first Citroën DS3 in the Rallycross circus, and there is a lot for ‘LL’ [his nickname is ‘Lille-Lennart’ or ‘Little Lennart’; Lennart is the first name of his father] to learn.

“I am very glad we are here so we can actually go racing. Even yesterday we had problems in scrutineering, I don’t know what I have done to upset them but I must have done something,” said the perplexed S1600 driver.

“The car is so new and we have so much to learn. We are even worse off because everybody else has done at least one event now. We did some small testing, but nothing much at all. We have done nothing on gravel before coming here.”

Johansson made a good start to his weekend in practice, where he placed eight, and the first heat, earning himself fifth fastest time. “This is much more stable than the Peugeot, it rides the bumps so much better! I was pleased with my heat, and I made a bad start so it was not so bad to end up where we are.”

Beaten by Bakkerud and Larsson in his first heat race, Johansson is in good company, but needs to keep pushing to make up for lost ground at the start of the season.

“Of course you always want to win, but if I can make the A final this weekend I will be very happy. Next weekend will be different, there will be so many French cars!”

“We still have the Peugeot. I hope we can sell it soon as we really need the money. It does give me a nice feeling though that we have the first DS3 in the sport when this is the car everybody is talking about.”
