Eriksson fastest

OMSE team principal made the Saturday his.

Andréas Eriksson, whose Fiesta was running on Michelin tyres for the first time, came out on top of the first heat here at Montalegre in Portugal, but the overall pace was not at its peak. Nobody got a clean run, everybody falling over themselves trying to get away. Eriksson was in the last race of the day, Frode Holte and himself leading from the start, and ultimately slowed each other down tussling for position. Luckily for Eriksson, everybody else either got held up for made a mistake to allow him to emerge fastest. Tanner Foust should have been top of the pile, jokering first in the race with his team mate, but spun all on his own at the start of the final lap. Liam Doran was second fastest, he made a poor get-away but used his head to joker early and pick the rest of his rivals off to take the race win.

Sverre Isachsen was leading the race Doran won, until engine failure halted him in his tracks. Marc Laboulle was also a non-finisher, the Frenchman’s team blaming transmission failure for his demise. Toomas Heikkinen was unfortunate not to get awarded a time, he finished his race although a lap down after collecting a puncture.

Mats Lysen was quick in his Clio III but was another to spin of his own accord, this time in the last corner, only an impressive 360 degree save kept him out of the wall.

Frank Valle failed to start, a legend of transmission problems in timed practice.
