Let’s give it a GO!

A busy weekend with numerous Rallycross championship events ahead.

Over the coming weekend there will be rounds of several national Rallycross championships driven all over Europe. While in Germany, Norway and Denmark the events mark the kick-off of the home series in Great Britain and France it will be the second event, in Austria the third and for the Belgian championship contenders already the fourth chase for points. The event at the Estering at Buxtehude will count for both, the German as well as the Belgian Rallycross Championship and its entry list shows no less than 16 drivers known from their ERC round participations.

Austrian Willy Salzgeber is the reigning German Supercar champion, but will have a strong competitor in René Münnich. While Dutchman Ron Snoeck has already pointed out his interest in the German title (and money) hunt, the Belgians Jochen Coox and Patrick Van Mechelen will be at the Estering to score points for their own national series.

  • Information for Germany:
  • Wendelin Coste, father of René Coste and German Rallycross driver of the first hour, is returning to the sport. The man who has already competed in Rallycross events of the early 1970s with, among other cars, a unique four-wheel driven (!) Renault 4 has bought the 2005 Honda Civic Type-R of Swede Jimmy Farsbo to show the younger drivers of the SuperNational category that he is still not ready for the scrap heap.
  • 2008 German Rallycross Champion Jörg Jockel is going to drive the rent-a-car Mitsubishi Lancer E6 of Münnich Motorsport as his own Ford Focus I Supercar is still not ready.
  • Multiple Autocross and Rallycross champion Rolf Volland will debut a brand new Škoda Fabia II in the Super1600 class. “We were able to lower the centre of gravity for the new Fabia even more while my tuner Hohenester found some additional horses for the engine,” claims the veteran from Bavaria.
  • René Münnich has entered his Škoda Fabia II for the Supercar category of the German championship – as well as his Škoda Fabia I [usually driven by Clemens Meyer in the ERC] for the Super1600 class of the Belgian championship, because of being keen to do as much racing as possible…
  • As his own Volvo C30 is not ready yet Belgian Pedro Bonnet is competing at Buxtehude with the BMW E87 TouringCar of compatriot Guino Kenis who some time ago announced to leave the Rallycross scene and is offering his 1-series BMW for sale or as a rent-a-car now.
  • Information for France:
  • Trophée Andros ice-racer Jean-Baptiste Dubourg is set to drive his maiden Rallycross event at Faleyras in France. Dubourg gets the 2010 FRC winning Citroën Xsara ERC of Davy Jeanney from MTechnologies for the event, the same car that was driven by Swede Timmy Hansen in the opening round at Dreux over the Easter weekend.
  • Information for Norway:
  • After Andreas Bakkerud has won the Super1600 class of the British ERC round at Lydden Hill the Set Promotion team driver is looking forward to take part in the Norwegian Rallycross Championship opener at the Eikås Motorsenter, his home venue. “Now I have a good chance to start in front of all those supporters here in my Bergen home area, who can usually follow my activities only via the internet. As most of my sponsors are local Bergen companies, they’ll also have a good chance to take some advantage from the event. And I will do my best to score another victory for all of them,” said the Renault Clio campaigner with the usual grin on his face.
