14 January There will be a new class in British Rallycross Championship events this year when a one-make series for the Mini Countryman All4 Cooper S begins. Launched by Tony Bell and Martin Hawkes who are also the driving force behind the two-wheel drive BMW Mini series that is also on the BritishRX bill, the new category will allow limited modifications and aims to provide four-wheel drive racing at an affordable level. At least four cars are already being built for the new series which will begin at the opening British event at Lydden on 29 May.
14 January JB Dubourg extended his series lead in the third weekend of Trophee Andros racing at Serre-Chevalier where he won the first day of racing and placed second in the second day, behind Nathanael Berthon (Peugeot). Dubourg’s DA Racing-Renault-Motul again had a good weekend, remaining ahead in the Teams’ Championship and guiding Gerald Fontanel to victory in the Elite category where he also leads the championship. The series moves to Lans en Vercors this weekend.
15 January The FIA launches a ‘Request for Proposal’ (RFP) for the promotion of the FIA European Rallycross Championship. The statement explains that this follows the RFP published in October 2020 seeking a new promoter for the FIA World Rallycross Championship. The new FIA RX2e Championship is to be included in the World RX events. For 2021 only the FIA European Rallycross Championships for RX1 and RX3 (Supercar and Super1600) were included. The new RFP covers a period of at least three years, 2022-2025, for both European Championships. More Euro Supercar video here and more Super1600 video here.
20 January The FIA begins the build up to the start of its new Rally Star programme. Swedish rallycross racer and esports star Klara Andersson is one of the “go-to guides” who will present video tutorials and guide participants in the scheme that is aimed at getting three drivers into the FIA Junior World Rally Championship in 2024 and producing a future World Rally Champion.
