Electric racer Raymond joins Hansen as a Citroen rallycross pioneer
by Rallycross World |
A shameless bit of self-promotion with a tenuous link to the news this week. Next week Frenchman Cyril Raymond will debut the newest Citroen in rallycross as he races the new STARD Citroen C3 ERX in the second round of the Projekt E series as part of Neste World Rallycross of Riga-Latvia.
For many years the honour or distinction of blooding new Citroens has been the preserve of Kenneth Hansen who pioneered ZX, Xsara, C4 and DS3 from Citroen.
Raymond will race the new all-electric C3 in Latvia next weekend. The car is based around Citroen Racing’s customer R5 offering, retaining much of the chassis and running gear but powered by STARD’s REVelution drive train. With an output of 450kW and 1000Nm of torque the car uses three electric motors, one on the front axle and two driving the rear wheels. The cutting edge of rallycros technology, however, has its feet in the tradition of the sport as the regulations for Projekt E allow teams to build their own chassis, just as it has always been and was when Hansen chose the Citroen ZX as his own first rallycross Supercar.
