23 April World RX promoter IMG and STARD reconfirm that their Projekt E electric series will go ahead when the 2020 race season is able to start. The statement follows news that the FIA’s move to electrify the World Rallycross Championship will be delayed until 2022. “Since the delivery of the first Projekt E car to Holten Motorsport in November, we have built further cars and continue to do so. We are looking forward to the Projekt E cars competing against each other when circumstances allow,” said STARD CEO Michael Sakowicz.
24 April Mitchell deJong takes his third straight victory in the iRX All-Star Invitational Esports event at Sonoma. deJong beat defending iRX World Champion Sami-Matti Trogen and WRC driver Craig Breen after a controversial moment between Breen and deJong during the final ended an intense battle for the lead. Trogen grabbed second while Breen who had led the race, dropped to third after his spin. The series continues this Friday at Indianapolis.
27 April The NRV, the rallycross organiser at the Eurocircuit in Holland, responds to the Dutch government’s ban on mass gatherings until 1 September with a statement that admits “A championship seems hardly feasible this year.” The club plans to update the information on 20 May and is looking forward to celebrating it’s 50th anniversary next year: “The NRV board certainly also focuses on the future of rallycross in the Netherlands. And a bright future for the Eurocircuit, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in the coming year. 2020 seems to be a lost rallycross season, but this year will be used to prepare a fantastic rallycross season next year. A rallycross season that does justice to our sport and the rich half-century history of the Eurocircuit.”
28 April The Oponeo Polish Rallycross Championship cancels its first round at Slomczyn. The series had already rescheduled the original date but has now canned the first round and hopes that the first of the remaining seven events will take place as schedule at Sosnova in the Czech Republic on 26-28 June.
29 April IMG, Motorsports Games and Codemasters announce the second World RX Esports event – the Montalegre edition which will take place on Sunday 3 May, the day on which the second round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship should have been run in Portugal. Based on the DiRT 2.0 game, the event will run from 1400 UK time on Sunday and feature a mix of competitors comprising World RX drivers, guest racers and gamers. Swedish rally driver and gamer Mattias Adielsson won the Catalunya edition two weeks ago and will return for the second event.
29 April SET Esports announces the signing of Swedish racer Klara Andersson. A competitor in the Swedish Junior Rallycross Chgampionship, Andersson (the younger sister of former Euro RX racer Magda) joins SET’s burgeoning Esports stable.
