Going to the Rallycross Mecca

by Henk de Winter |

It’s not that dramatic says Dutch rallycrossdriver Wil Teurlings. “I’ve been here before to watch the races. Now it’s time to be a competitor. But indeed it’s my last chance.”

Teurlings is racing a Volvo S40 from which the homologation stopped at 2009 and this year, the special 4 year extension for rallycross, is running out. “It’s the last time I can race with this car in an European event here in Höljes. They always say, that you must have racing here once in your life. So apparently this is the moment.” The way to Höljes was specially last week not an easy one for the Teurlings team. “I renewed the block and ordered new pistons. When the pistons arrived they where too big. 1 tenth of a millimeter. The choice was then. Not going to Sweden. Make the cylinders of the engine, which I already partly build in, 0,1 millimeter bigger. Or take a running used engine. We went for the last option’, smiled Teurlings. “Let see how it is on the track. I’m looking forward to race here.”

The plans for 2013 are still are still vague. At this moment the team thinks that they will not build a new car an race the Volvo S40 in the Belgian Championship. “And maybe some races in England. Just for the fun.”
