The next Walfridsson to come?

Lars-Erik Walfridsson is the younger brother of the 1980 European Rallycross Champion Per-Inge Walfridsson and the older brother of current ERC driver Stig-Olov Walfridsson. Less famous in Rallycross than his two brothers Lars-Erik claimed the 1979 Swedish ‘Volvo Cup’ title, a Rallycross series restricted to drivers with all different modells of the Swedish car manufacturer, but concentrated himself on rallying a couple of years later. The so-called ‘Mellanbror’ [middle-brother] has an 18 years old son by the name of Lukas, who is currently a very successful cross-kart driver both in Sweden and Norway.

However, on Monday after the ERC finale in the Czech Republic Lukas Walfridsson got the opportunity to test-drive the Set Promotion Super1600 Renault Clio II of Jussi-Petteri Leppihalme at Sosnová while last Sunday his uncle ‘Stecka’ offered Lukas a test-drive in his 550+bhp Renault Clio III Supercar. “It was pretty slippery at the Höljesbanan, but this was not something that worried me. My pace increased from lap to lap and I enjoyed to do nothing wrong. I want to thank Stig-Olov and Neby [Sven-Inge Neby is the mechanic in chief of Helmia Motorsport and was already Per-Inge’s mechanic when ‘Pi’ won the 1980 ERC from Martin Schanche] for the test. And I hope that there is more of this to come…,” claimed the youngster later on his Facebook site.
