Klaus Butenschön (DoB 22.08.1937 – DoD 04.10.2011)
We, the crew of RallycrossWorld.com, are sad to report to our readers that German veteran Rallycross driver Klaus Butenschön has passed away at the age of 74 years after an operation to overcome infective endocarditis on early Tuesday morning. Klaus was a rather late Rallycross starter, having successfully done Sandtrack-racing with motorbikes and Autocross for many a year he entered his first ever Rallycross event in 1988 being an already 51-year-old by then. However, racing on a regular basis in Germany as well as in the ERC “der Butenklaus” from the port of Kiel became known all over Europe, less for his results, but as someone who loved and lived his hobby Rallycross and as being an always cool, friendly and helpful chap, at whatever venue he turned up. After retirement from Rallycross as well as selling his well-known Division 1 Mazda 323 GT-R 4WD in 2002 and a subsequent five year break the former master painter made a comeback with a Citroën AX GTI for the Division 5 of the German Rallycross Championship (DRX). Here he was a regular competitor over the past four years, currently and with one more event to come placed fourth overall. With Butenschön our motorsport has now lost one of its elder Gentlemen – Godspeed Klaus and may you Rest In Peace.
