FIA NEZ championship at Nysum

The fourth and final round of the FIA Northern European Zone Championships was run on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September at the Nysumbanen in Denmark. The weather remained bad over the entire weekend and due to heavy rainfalls all participants of the event had to fight with their competitors as well as lots of mud. Some unusual guests showed up at the venue, WRC star Petter Solberg was present to assist his own son Oliver and the son of his brother Henning, Oscar, who both took part in the CrossKart section of the event. Oliver drove an 85cc kart, Oscar a kart with 125cc engine. 2011 ERC TouringCar category winner Lars Øivind Enerberg from Norway raced a 650cc CrossKart on this occasion, while homeboy Ulrik Linnemann and Swede Mattias Thörjesson were the star guests of the 1600cc Rallycross field.

After winning the A final from local Seat driver Dennis Rømer Estonian Mitsubishi campaigner Sten Oja claimed the ‘NEZ 4WD’ title from 2010 winner Camilla Antonsen, the Norwegian Rallycross lady made it to third place in the race and to the vice-title of the series. Norwegian Ola Frøshaug bagged the ‘NEZ Open’ title, having won three events out of four put him out of reach for series runner-up Ilgonis Krūmiņš from Latvia. Similar situation for the ‘NEZ 2000’ category, after claiming three event victories Norwegian Erik Svartås left Latvian Martinš Porietis no chance to get any near to the title. For Lithuanian Škoda campaigner Vaidas Navickas the first and second place of Mattias Thörjesson and Ulrik Linnemann was no major problem as his third place at Nysum was as good as a victory for the ‘NEZ 1600’ point standings and only confirmed his title. However, all of the below results remain unofficial until confirmation of the NEZ Rallycross Commission, their next meeting is scheduled for October 22.
