German championship at Maasmechelen

For round 5 of the German Rallycross Championship the regulars had to travel abroad, the Duivelsbergcircuit at Maasmechelen in Belgium was the venue for the only DRX event in another country. Both, René Münnich and Rolf Volland won their fifth consecutive race, thereby leading the series with a maximum of 100 points each. Škoda campaigner Münnich led the A final from start to finish, never coming under pressure from the Ford duo Willy Salzgeber and Bernd Wilhelm. Similar situation in the Super1600 class were Volland won from Münnich’s fiancé Mandie August and ACN Buxtehude principal Andreas Steffen. Among the SuperNational contenders Rallycross newcomer Jan-Philipp Kappler made good use of his VW Golf of the third generation to beat the old warhorse Hans Kirchhof and his modern Porsche 911 GT3.
