Finnish championship at Hyvinkää

The sixth and final round of the Finnish Rallycross Championship (SM) was held on Saturday September 10 at the Hyvinkään Rallicrossrata at Hyvinkää. While 2010 SM winner Toomas Heikkinen had left his native series to concentrate on the ERC it was multiple Finnish champion Atro Määttä who claimed his third 2011 overall victory as well as his fifth Rallycross title (2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011).

After the start of the all decisive A final it was Honda campaigner Sami Pakkala who took the early lead, but the protégé of Rallycross legend Matti Alamäki was not able to keep his Civic of the 8th generation for the whole race in front of the Määttä Ford Focus I, but eventually made it to second and the SM bronce medal. Championship leader prior to Hyvinkää was Jukka Lautamäki, but after reaching the chequered flag of the last race of the season in third position the Ford Focus driver became the series runner-up to his make colleague Määttä.

In the SRC category it was Swedish guest driver Fredrik Tiger who won the A final from his Finnish competitors, but as Tiger had not registered for the championship the BMW pilot did not get any points for his success. Therefore the full Bingo pot went to his runner-up Joni-Pekka Rajala, who thereby snatched the SRC title away from under the nose of top favourite Jari-Pekka Kokko.
