Ydrefalk, Larsson and Johansson winning at the Westombanan.

The first round of the Swedish Rallycross Championship was organised on Saturday June 4 at the Westombanan, the “Circuit west of” Arvika, the home town of Per Eklund, Tommy Kristoffersson and Kenny Bräck. The victory of the SuperNational campaigners was claimed by Patrik Ydrefalk, who drives a very rapid Toyota Corolla equipped with a 2900cc Volvo 16V engine producing more than 360bhp. Reigning SN champion Fredrik Tiger had to throw in the towel already during practice due to low oil pressure of his BMW engine.

While Fredrik Larsson drove his Hyundai Accent to victory of the National2400 category among the Junior competitors it was Tommy Johansson hurling his green BMW E36 as the winner towards the chequered flag. TouringCar youngster Anton Marklund had to give up in the first qualifying runs with a damaged rear-axle of his Ford Fiesta VII and no spare parts available to repair the RWD car at the venue.
