15 December / Motorsport UK, the British ASN, names Patrick O’Donovan as the UK Academy Young Driver of the Year. The award, delivered in collaboration between the Academy, iZone and Loughborough College, is contested between five second-year drivers enrolled on the performance pathway’s DiSE programme. This year’s finalists – RX150 British Rallycross champion O’Donovan, MINI Challenge racer Tom Ovenden, Britcar Trophy’s James Black, GTC South European champion Jemma Moore and Ginetta GT4 Supercup vice-champion Josh Rattican undertook a variety of competitive tasks before the judging panel. As well as winning the RX150 championship in the UK, O’Donovan raced in the FIA RX2e series, achieving a podium finish in Spain and placing fourth in the series.

16 December / The Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy reveals its 2022 calendar. Scheduled to run over six weekends and comprising eight rounds, the series is to start at Lydden on Easter weekend and visit Pembrey, Mondello Park and one venue TBC before returning to Lydden for the final in November.

18 December / The second weekend of Trophee Andros racing takes place in Andorra where JB Dubourg and Yann Ehrlacher are the winners of the two events. Dubourg leaves the event tied on points at the top of the championship table with Aurelien Panis. In the Elite category Cesar Gazeau wins on both days but former European Rallycross Champion Eddy Benezet retains the points lead.The series moves on to Isola 2000 on 7-8 January.

19 December / The annual 6 Hours Ralicross de Lousada Paulo Sergio takes place at Lousada where the Peugeot 106 of the Kaxa & Motor team of Joaquim Machado, Jorge Machado, Jorge Areal and Leonel Sampaio eventually triumph having covered 419 laps. The pace was set by the similar car of Afinauto (Miguel Dias, Jose Teixeira, Joca Gonzaga and Paulo Quaresm) but they lost the lead after serving a put lane penalty for overtaking under yellow flags. 30 cars started the race with 25 still running at the end of the six hour epic.

19 December / The Argentina and South American rallycross Championship, CARX, completes its 2021 season with a return to Concepion del Uruguay. Victory in the final round of the year sealed the championship for Federico Villagra (Toyota Yaris). Villagra was joined on the podium by Augusto D’Agostini and Gaston Gonzalez. Victory in the Turbo Light category secured the class championship for Cesar Folledo who took a clear win in the final ahead of Diego Levy and Ricardo Martinoglio.

This weekend / It’s the end of the year and there’s no holiday rallycross as far as we know, so it’s a good time to catch up with the best of the year just ended or some old favourites.
