25 April / Oscar Ortfeldt, the Swedish racer most recently seen in RX Italia events, won the opening round of RX Portugal at Lousada. The first event of the 2021 Campeonato de Portugal de Ralicross e Kartcross season was hit by mixed weather which forced a change to the event schedule and contributed to some good racing. Defending champion Jose Lameiro (Skoda Fabia) was second to Ortfeldt’s Fiesta, Joaquim santos (Fiesta) losing the position along with the left rear suspension of his car. There were 18 starters in Super1600 where Joao Ribeiro (Skoda Fabia) led home his brother Helder (Citroen Saxo) and Jorge Machado (Citroen C2) to open the year with a win. Alexandre Borges (Semog Bravo) was best of the 29 KartCross racers and Iglesias Somohano (Kincar 600) topped the Junior entry. The National 2WD class was won by Celmo Guicho (Renault Clio) while Pedro Tiago (Citroen Saxo) won the National 1.6 final in his Citroen Saxo and the Junior win was collected by Jorge Rego’s similar car. 28 April / Official RX2e test driver Oliver Eriksson is to demonstrate an example of the new all-electric racecar at Nysumbanen in Denmark during this weekend’s RallyX Nordic season opener. While Eriksson has clocked up more miles than anyone in the new car, which has its own FIA Rallycross Championship this year, the latest group of drivers to sample it include former F1 racer Dani Clos. “For me, there is no better choice than the FIA RX2e Championship – it’s not just the future of motorsport but indeed the present. It is a wonderful project and will be very attractive for all kinds of national and international companies, as a sustainable championship that offers a way of competing while supporting the environment,” said the Spanish driver. Former RX2 champion Cyril Raymond has also recently driven the car and said: “I truly believe in rallycross’ electric future. For me, this type of car was made for this discipline, whose format is perfectly suited to showcasing and developing electric technology. Aside from the lack of noise at the start, the races will be every bit as exciting as they are currently – perhaps even more so.”
