19 November The Irish Rallycross Championship confirms that round three of the IRX series will take place at Mondello Park on 5 December and that the fourth and final round of the 2020 season will now be run on 28 December. Both events are subject to the national restrictions in Ireland permitting events to be held.
19 November RX Italia publishes an eight event schedule for the 2021 Italian Rallycross Championship. The series will include one event in Austria and the last three rounds also feature in the FIA Central European Zone (CEZ) Championship.4-5 April Maggiora; 1-3 April Ittiri; 5 June Maggiora reverse; 6 June Maggiora; 18-18 July Castelletto; 30-31 July Adria; 2-3 October Melk (AUT); 23-24 October Maggiora.
23 November The eighth round of the iRacing Rallycross World Championship is run on a virtual course at Phoenix where SET Esports pairing Tommi Hallman and Jonne Ollikainen place first and second. While the results helped both in the series, third place for Jon Robertson kept the Team Yokohama driver on top of the individual points standings on the day that he and teammate Yohann Harth secured the team title. The series sits out Thanksgiving this weekend and returns for the final at Sonoma on 5 December.
25 November The FIA World Rallycross Championship confirms that the final scheduled event of the year will be cancelled. The season was due conclude on Nurburgring’s new rallycross track on 12-13 December, but restrictions in place because of the COVID-19 Pandemic eventually made that impossible. “We were all very much looking forward to this premiere at our race track. The FIA World Rallycross Championship is an entertaining and action-packed format that further enriches our portfolio. Nevertheless, this decision is essential for the benefit of all involved and their health”. Although the Nurburgring has successfully proved over the months that events with spectators also work in the context of infection protection, the situation is now a different one due to the sharp rise in the number of infections. We are now looking forward to the World RX at the Nürburgring 2021,” said Nurburgring Managing Director Mirco Markfort.
The announcement means that the FIA World Rallycross Championship is decided on championship positions after round eight at Barcelona with Johan Kristoffersson collecting his third drivers’ title and KYB Team JC becoming the Teams’ Champions. World RX boss Paul Bellamy said: “We offer our warmest congratulations to Johan and the KYB Team JC for their well-deserved titles. We are disappointed we were not able to hold our final event in Germany, but are very proud of the season we were able to produce throughout these unprecedented times, and our deepest gratitude goes to all our event organisers, partners and fans for their patience and continued support through it all.”
World RX needed to complete six events to be classified as a World Championship by FIA, the regulations also requiring the FIA European Rallycross Championship to complete three events for championship status. With just two events complete, neither the European Supercar nor the Super1600 titles will be awarded in 2020.
This weekend As far as we know, there’s no racing this weekend and not even iRacing because America is otherwise occupied. Last week when there was no World RX there was an edition of the After Track show which, away from events, took a slightly different tack.
