30 April The Deutsche Rallycross Meisterschaft reports that events at Grundau and Schluchtern aber affected by the Coronavirus measures in Germany that forbid mass gatherings until the end of August. Grundau hopes to reschedule its 30 May event to 3-4 October, but the event at Schluchtern has been cancelled for 2020.
30 April Following an announcement by French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe on 28 April, the French ASN, FFSA, issues a statement outlining that sporting events could begin to resume from 11 May, and that events of fewer than 5000 could be run from 1 August, subject to the organiser meeting all local and national requirements.
1 May Sami-Matti Trogen ends Mitchell deJong’s three-event winning streak in the iRX Rallycross series which runs its fourth event at the Lucas Oils Raceway in Indianapolis. Trogen made the most of first lap incidents to work his way through from the back of the grid to take the lead and then race clear of the field. DeJong placed second with Parker Kligerman completing the top three.
3 May RX Italia runs a second esports event under its #RXHomedition banner. The event is won by Damiano Delfino, but the event overall featured some controversial incidents.
3 May The second World RX Esports Invitational is run using the DiRT 2.0 virtual version of the Montalegre circuit in Portugal. French gamer Quentin Dall’olmo emerges as the winner of the event, his younger brother Killian having crossed the line first but losing the win because of a penalty for a jump start. With a pair of fastest times in Qualifying, driving a Peugeot 208 on the challenging circuit, Dall’olmo took the TQ (top qualifier) position in the Intermediate Classification, won semi-final one from pole position and finished second on track in the final. “I’m really happy with this victory, it was a perfect day for me. Top qualifier, a semi-final win and the win in the final is awesome. I got my revenge after a bad result at Catalunya where I was Top Qualifier too but finished in last position in the semi-final after a crash in the first corner, so I’m really happy. It’s a shame about the jump start for my little brother in the final because we could have made it a Dall’olmo one-two, but it’s still a great day for us. Thanks to everyone that put on this awesome event,” said Dall’olmo. Rally driver and gamer Jon Armstrong placed second with V8 Supercars racer Shane van Gisbergen placing third in a sensational debut.
4 May The FIA World Rallycross Championship publishes a revised calendar for the 2020 season. Marked as provisional and subject to FIA approval, the calendar details nine events over eight weekends – including a double-header at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit. It omits events in Norway and South Africa. The first event is due to be Holjes in Sweden, but with that event moving from its traditional July date to 23-23 August.
4 May RallyX Nordic postpones the second and third weekends of racing in its 2020 schedule. Danish venue Nysum should have hosted the series on 6-7 June before it moved on to Finnskogbanen in Norway on 25-26 July. Both events have been postponed because of national measures in Denmark and Norway respectively to control Coronavirus. “It is obviously regrettable that we find ourselves in the position of having to postpone more race meetings, but in the current climate, there is unfortunately no other way … we are working hard to find a solution and hope to have some positive news to share soon,” said Jan-Erik Steen, CEO of RallyX Nordic.
