Lydden recently gained planning permission that will bring about the greatest change in the appearance of the venue in its history. Like any other motor sport venue, the landscape of the ‘Home of Rallycross’ has changed over the years, sometimes through necessity of regulation, at others just the process of modernisation. The landmark ‘Y’ roof of the old scrutineering bay has overseen much of this change. We plunged into the archive and came out with a selection of wider shots that show Lydden action and the changing face of the venue. There’s also a kind of social history in this; the support vehicles in paddock, the proximity to the track of the marshals and the general evolution of the circuit and infrastructure – and of course the cars.
