Robin Larsson gets rallycross Supercar Audi

TouringCar rallycross star Robin Larsson will graduate to the Supercar category this year when he will race an Audi A1 in a mixed programme of FIA World Rallycross Championship and Scandinavian events.

A new team has been put together around the 21-year-old Swede who will be able to call on some of the most experienced names in rallycross as he embarks on his maiden Supercar season. Alongside his father, 2006 and Æ07 European champion Lars Larsson, the new squad will boast engineering and driving expertise from multi-title winning driver Michael Jernberg, himself an accomplished car builder and widely rated as the best driver never to win the European title. Prolific car builder Ingvar Gunnarsson brings his expertise to the team as constructor of the new Audi.

“It feels great to have so much experience in the team. The step from TouringCar to Supercar is a big one and I need to focus on the driving and learning those new skills so having a lot of good people around me to look after the car and the team is a big help,” said Larsson.

The Audi A1will draw on a large number of known elements that should help shorten the development time. The engine will come from Trollspeed which is well practised and successful with engines from the VAG family and the transmission will be the widely used Sellholm longitudinal arrangement. Suspension will be Ohlins and the new car is scheduled to be complete and ready to test before the first event of the Rallycross Supercar Scandinavia series at the beginning of May.

The new Larsson Jernberg Racing outfit that will run the car is co-owned by Lars Larsson, Jernberg and Robert Lannhed, boss of Berg’s Fegen AB which has been a long term sponsor in rallycross with previous relationships to both Larsson and Jernberg.

Our goal is to run the full FIA European Rallycross Championship, and of course the Swedish round of the World championship in Holjes, and then to develop the team and progress to the World championship in the future,” said Larsson who arrived with a bang in the European championship mid-way through 2012 winning his first event at international level. After a full TouringCar season in 2013, finishing second in the series, Larsson made his Supercar debut in the Swedish championship event at Kinnekulle last October where he drove a KMS VW Scirocco.
