Michaël De Keersmaecker in ‘war colors’ in RX

by Henk de Winter |

Michaël De Keersmaecker confirms that he will participate in all 9 races for the FIA European Rallycross Championship. “I’m ready for this season and that is why my Ford Focus is in war colors’. “Like Petter Solberg said, it will be some show. It’s going to be tough indeed. Thats why we put the Ford Focus in a complete military look,” says Belgian De Keersmaecker.

De Keersmaecker, holder of two European rallycross titles. In 2007 in de Super1600 category and in 2008 in the Touringcars, made a swap to the Supercar category in 2009. Last year he had his best season in the Supercars so far. “Except for one event I was in every A-final. I feel very much at home in this FIA European Rallycross Championship. On the other hand I know that we are a small team and that I must use every inch of my 12 years of experience in rallycross. My circuit knowledge, combined with the reliability of the Focus must me bring into the top of this years RX Championship.” His opponents know that they don’t must underestimate De Keersmaecker, as he always creates a great show and only lifts his foot of the throttle when he is passing the checkered flag.

The Ford Focus will have a brand new special developed torque-engine straight out of the workshops of Mike Callaghan Motorsport. We are almost closing a deal with Duxe Engine Works for the data logging and management system. The team works with two mechanics for the entire championship. “This in strong contrast with top top teams as Hansen Motorsport, Petter Solberg, Anton Marklund, etc. We are aware of the fact that we are in the underdog position in this years championship. The plan is to take maximum advantage out of this underdog position. I’m helped by the fact that the car in military look.” It’s not only that explains De Keersmaecker. “The helmet on the flank of the Focus refers back to the Gauls (Galliërs). According to Caesar the Belgians were the bravest amongst the Gauls. I will be fighting to the end in all the nine upcoming races. I want to be amongst the drivers in the finalrace of the day. With four qualifying heats resulting, two semi-, and one final. The best shot I can give for the RallycrossRX fans is to race six times during an event.”

The team sees it not as a disadvantage that they are a small team. “We know that we can’t afford any major damage on the car. As the time between heats can be short to fix or repair things. This is also a reason why I remain faithful to the extremely strong and reliable Ford Focus. Like I said. I’m ready and want to fight to the bitter end.”
