New cars for Helmia duo
by Tim Whittington |
Helmia Motorsport will field a pair of new Renault Clio Supercars in the 2013 FIA European Rallycross Championship with Stig-Olov Walfridson and Mats Lysen the drivers in the team for the third year.
The Swedish team is hard at work on the final build of the new cars which will differ significantly from its previous Clios in using new five-cylinder engines and a different kind of gearbox. “I hope that the new engine will have more torque but also that it will be more reliable than the old ones because we had too many problems last year,” said Walfridson who has found benefits in working with his Norwegian team mate. “The collaboration with Mats and his team has worked very well, we have a clear advantage because we both make good input to the development of the car. I’ve enjoyed working with him and look forward to racing with his again this year.”
Lysen and Walfridson placed sixth and ninth respectively last year but are aiming higher with the new cars in the 2013 RX season. The pair are also re-preparing the ‘old’ Clios, Lysen making his car available for rent while Walfridson hopes that there may be an opportunity to run his car for a wild card driver at some time later in the year.
