Show time this weekend

Autosport International is open, so the 2013 racing season is officially on. Brim full of racecars of every conceivable hue – and some you may not yet have conceived of – Autosport International is perhaps a little light on Rallycross content this year, but seek and ye shall find.

On the ground, Liam Doran’s Citroën DS3 Supercar is there, as his Pikes Peak RS200 – would it be good if Rallycross cars had aero devices like that?

Doran is not driving in the show this year, but out there in the Live Action arena one Rallycrosser who has got herself a ride is British championship Supernational star Shelley Wakeling. Last year she was Top Gear’s “Girl Gary”, now she’s been drafted into the team of stunt ace Terry Grant. Wakeling will be back in the British Rallycross Championship this year, her Honda Civic Type R currently being improved for the new season.

Off at a slight tangent, Rallycross has some links to the British Touring Car Championship in the show. Daniel Welch, son of double British Rallycross Champion John, had his BTCC Proton on display and youngest ever Supercar event winner Andrew Jordan had his Indpendents championship winning Honda at the show.

Among the drivers at the show, triple European title winner Sverre Isachsen is enthusiastically looking forward to getting his hands on the new Gunnarsson-built Subaru that he will race in 2013 and multiple British and Irish champion Dermot Carnegie, now retired from Rallycross, already has the return of the FIA Championship to Mondello Park in August in his diary.

Clubmans Rallycross is to join the show on Saturday and Sunday, the two public days offering additional attractions as well as the Live Action shows and Saturday night’s indoor racing at the Oval Racing Experience.

Tickets for Autosport International cost £31 for adults and £20 for children aged five and over. For more information and ticket sales call 0844 581 1420 or visit www.autosportinternational.com.
