Basseng wins Champions Meeting

GT1 World champion Marc Basseng won Autodrom Sosnova’s  ‘Champions Meeting’ rallysprint at Ceska Lipa in the Czech Republiuc on Sunday. Basseng, who won the GT title alongside Markus Winkelhock in one of Münnich Motorsport’s Mercedes SLS drove All-Inkl.com’s Skoda Fabia Supercar in the Champions Meeting, the team also fielding its ‘Mark 2’ Fabia for team boss René Münnich and a Super1600 Fabia II for Mandie August. The event was run over two heats with the combined time deciding the winner. Fastest in both outings, Basseng was the clear winner of the Rallycross Supercar class and set fastest times of any driver in the multi-class event. Münnich placed second in the Supercar class, Anton Marklund taking third in his new VW Polo ahead of Jan Bartos who was the only other finisher after Marek Zeman non-started his Fiesta. The Super1600 Rallycross class delivered a home win for Zdenek Cermak who finished ahead of Susta brothers Stanislav and Josef with August fourth.

Czech rally hero Martin Prokop beat new Super2000 World champion Craig Breen in a close ‘4WD WRC’ battle. Jan Sykora topped the 4WD Open rally class, the 2WD version being taken by Rallycross regular and Czech favourite Roman Castoral. The Autocross Superbuggy class was won by Tomas Pospisilik while the Junior Buggy was convincingly won by Jakub Kubicek. The historic class was won by Vaclav Pech’s BMW M3 ahead of the Sierra Cosworth of Jiri Navratil.
