VW Polo win for Marklund
by Tim Whittington |
The Austrian Race of Champions, the season closing event at the PS Racing Center in Greinbach, Austria, was won by Anton Marklund. Driving his new VW Polo Supercar in its first competitive event, the 19-year-old Swede beat last year’s event winner Peter Ramler in the final of the rallysprint-style event. Marklund, TouringCar champion in the 2012 European championship, will graduate to the Supercar class next year and is taking in end of season events as a part of his testing campaign ahead of the new season.
Setting fastest times throughout the event, Marklund also improved his own times each time he was in the car and will now move on to Sosnova in the Czech Republic where he will run the Polo in a similar event, gaining further miles as his team continues to develop the car and as he learns more about driving a Supercar. Among those Marklund will square up to in the Czech Republic is GT1 world champion Marc Basseng who returns to the event he won last year at the wheel of the AllInkl.com/Münnich Motorsport Skoda Fabia Supercar.
