Marklund for Austrian champions race

Anton Marklund will use his new VW Polo Supercar in competition for the first time this weekend when he takes part in the Race of Austrian Champions at the PS Racing Center in Greinbach. The end of season event at the Austrian venue features segments for Rallycross, rally and autocross cars and was run successfully last year when local favourite Peter Ramler won in his Seat Leon Supercar.

Marklund has completed some testing in his new Polo and the Austrian event, which will be followed for the 19-year-old Swede by a start in the similar event at Sosnova in the Czech Republic on November 17, represents a relatively gentle way for him to gain his first competitive experience in a Supercar. “Driving a Supercar is greatest fun I have ever had,” said Marklund recently, “It’s an incredible car but completely different from a rear-wheel drive TouringCar so it will take some time to get used to it.” Marklund plans further testing before the start of the 2013 FIA Rallycross Championship as he gets up to speed in the unique Supercar.

Marklund is the only foreign entry in the Rallycross Supercar category at Greinbach. The event also includes a Sup1600 class which is led by home favourite Christian Petrakovits. There are classes for rally cars and autocross, both with separate divisions for two and four-wheel drive. The event runs on Sunday November 11and features a heat, semi-finals and finals for all classes.
