Gerard de Rooy showed up this afternoon at the Duivelsberg. “To taste the atmosphere and see who my competitors are next week for the European round at the Eurocircuit”, says Rallycross Supercar newcomer Gerard de Rooy. The Dutchman, well know from his 2012 Paris Dakar victory, is going to do a one time race at his ‘home-track’ in Valkenswaard. De Rooy did a two day testing with a Citroën DS3 from Britain ‘Monster energy drink’ driver, Liam Doran. First he tested a Citroën C4 on the Dutch racingtrack. A few days later the DS3. “I felled more comfortable in the DS3 then the C4”, says De Rooy what clarify the choice. “I don’t know if the two-day test is or was enough for me. When you are alone on the track that is something completely different then with five cars on the same startline and race for the first corner.” Liam Doran sees De Rooy as a teammate. “He can help me with collecting data and the set-up of the car. On the same time I can help my new teammate to guid him trough the event.” Timur Timerzyanov who sees another competitive ‘Monster’ DS3 coming up. “It’s good to see that Gerard is racing next week, said Timerzyanov. The Russian, currently leader in the Supercars, answers the with a smile on his face the question if he is not afraid of the fact that de Rooy beat the ‘Russians’ in the 2012 Paris Dakar event. “Those things can happen. But not often.”

“The testing went perfectly”, says De Rooy. “I’m looking foreward to the European race and I know that a start with five or eight cars is going to be a complete different story then testing. At the same time it’s wonderful and great to be doing this and step into the footsteps of my father.”
