Dutch Championship at Eurocircuit

Marcel Snoeyers drove his Renault Clio, in the third race for the Dutch Championship, to a  second victory in the Super1600 class at the Dutch Eurocircuit. With two fastest times, in the first and second heat , Snoeyers puts the Clio on pole in the A-final. From start to finish the yellow Clio was in the lead. At no point in the final of the Super1600 race he was threatened for his second win. Peter van de Wege (Toyota Yaris) was racing long time in second position until two or three times the gearbox failed. “I don’t know what was wrong but the bloody thing jumped several times into neutral”. While Van de Wege was struggling with the gears, third man, Davy van den Branden saw a gap. “I saw Peter (Van de Wege) slowing down a bit. I thought. This is my change.” The inside line after the chicane was for Van den Branden. The two hit in the first corner, Van de Wege went wide into the sandtrap, but could manage to get the Yaris on the track again. After the race Van de Wege did not blame Van den Branden for the ‘hard’ attack’ on the inside. A racing incident said Van de Wege. These three drivers are also the top three in the Dutch Championship, with on top of the leaderboard Marcel Snoeyers.

In the TouringCars there was a very good performance of Mandy Kasse in the Ford Fiesta. In heat one and two, the 19-year young lady driver scored fastest time. Already good for the pole in the A-finale. In heat three her ford Fiesta stayed in the paddock. It was a bad sign. The Fiesta suffered with oil pressure problems. “First time that I’m on pole position with the Fiesta and now I can not run the car in the final.” Not a happy girl at the end of the day, which started so well for her. Koen Pauwels with the Volvo C30 of Jos Sterkens pulled the race towards him and scored the first victory with Pauwels behind the steeringwheel of the Volvo at the Dutch racingtrack. Christ Moelands (BMW 120i) became second and Louis de Haas (Opel Astra) third.

The race for Jos Kuypers started a bit strange when in the practice of the Supercars a spark plug flew out of the engine. The team was capable to repair the engine before heat number one. Three fastest times sets Kuypers on pole. The Fiesta took the lead and was not one moment in danger for the win. Ronny Scheveneels (VW Scirocco) suffered problems with an overheated engine and a broken driveshaft.

In the Supernational +2000 a racing accident between multiple Dutch and Belgian Champion Luc Maris (Volvo S40) and Filip Baelus (Volvo C30) created some commotion around the track. Both hit after the start and went together side by side of the track. “I could not help it”, said Baelus, “And I don’t like the fact that drivers or fans think I did this on purpose. I said sorry to Luc (Maris – RCW) these thing can happen when racing. But he kept telling me that it was my mistake.”
