Hedström gives PG tips

Swedish rally star PG Andersson completed a test day with Hedströms Motorsport at Höljes yesterday. Andersson, who drives for Proton in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship, will take part in next month’s Swedish round of the European Rallycross Championship at Höljes where he will race a Skoda Fabia Supercar belonging to Hedströms Motorsport. The 31-year-old driver has been rallying since 1999 and has also raced in Sweden’s Camaro Cup series, but has never previously taken part in Rallycross.

Hailing from the Varmland region in which Höljes is also situated, Andersson’s presence in the Swedish ERC is a significant additional attraction for the organising Finnskoga Motor Klubb which ‘revealed’ during the publicity launch for the event, having previously teased the media over the identity of a mystery guest driver “Mr Magic”. Hedströms Motorsport is also based close to Höljes, established this year around the return to Rallycross Peter Hedström and with financial backing from another Varmland resident, former European champion Olle Arnesson. The team owns the Fabia II that Hedström races (the ex-Michael Jernberg car) and the ‘Mk1’ version acquired from Belgian Jochen Coox and which is an ex-Lars Larsson ERC title winning machine.

Completing the Höljes test before leaving Sweden for next weekend’s Rally New Zealand, Andersson pronounced himself happy with his first laps in the Fabia Supercar. “It was really really fun to drive this car,” said Andersson whose last visit to Höljes was as a spectator. “I promise you it is really not the same thing as sitting in the audience and dealing with the Joker Lap was much more tricky than it looks. We had a very good test and have changed a lot in the car. I have chosen to have it a little softer than it was setup when Larsson drove the car. It went better and better and in the end it felt really good. That was just the beginning because we did not have time to test so much but I will be able to get some more laps during the press day. I’m really grateful for Hedströms Motorsport and Finnskoga MK for giving me this opportunity. This is a bit of a dream I always had and I promise to do everything I can to fight at the top.”
