GRC Saabs ready

Scott-Eklund Racing will test its rebuilt 2012-spec Saab 93s at Dreux in France on March 27. Formed by Andy Scott and Per Eklund to contest the Global Rallycross Championship, this will be the squad’s first run with the re-specified cars.

“Scott-Eklund Racing started as a basic idea late last year, what the team has achieved in such a short space of time is monumental. We’ve had very limited testing time. I had a short run in Sweden late last year but winter was already setting in and the snow prevented any further testing. Although the Saabs are looking good working off the dyno, the test will give us our first real indication of our actual pace,” said Scott.

Former European champion Eklund says the cars have been improved over the winter. “The Saab 93 should compare very well against its competitors. We have the advantage of a proven package which we have refined during the winter. We’ve saved weight and gained power, so we’ve optimised our package rather than starting from scratch,” he said.

The team will move to its American base at Champion Racing in Pompano Beach, Florida after the French test. Further testing in Florida is planned before the GRC season gets under way at Charlotte on May 26. There has not yet been any announcement on a team mate for Scott in the seven-race GRC. “We still have solid interest in our second car but that deal is yet to be secured. Consequently we are still open to negotiation,” said Scott.
