Five get Set

Looking forward to a season in his SetPromotion team will run five cars in the European Rallycross Championship, Jussi Pinomäki says that he does not miss racing himself.

“I find it easy not to drive, I’m enjoying this work running the team and working with the young drivers that we have coming through now, it’s very satisfying to see them improve and to help them achieve good results. We have a very busy year and I think that we have a great team here, Andreas Bakkerud and Jussi-Petteri Leppihalme are both capable of winning in Super1600 and with Timur Shigabutdinov, Teemu Suninen and Marat Knazev  [the latter pair in the JRX Cup] we have three very good drivers who are keen to learn and develop their skills and that’s a great part of what we do here,” said Pinomäki.

As well as running 15-year-old Russian Knazev and Finn Suninen (17) in the fledgling JRX formula, SetPromotion will field a Super1600 Clio II for Russian Shigabutdinov. The 29-year-old from Kazan has raced in national events for a few years, most recently with an ex-SetPromotion Clio in which he won an event last year.

“He is going to bring his own car back to us and we will prepare and run it,” said Pinomäki, “We have done a test with him and I think he has potential, his basic driving is very good but he does have a lot to learn. He knows that and has very realistic aims for this year, just to gain knowledge and experience.”

Pinomäki also revealed that he is working with kart racer Suninen on gaining Rallycross skills before the team takes delivery of its first JRX car in early May.
