Susann Hansen: ‘Motorsport Mum’

Susann Hansen, spouse of 14 times European Rallycross champion Kenneth Hansen, last Saturday evening was awarded “Motorsport Mum of the Year 2011”. It happened during the 50th anniversary celebration of the Swedish magazine ‘Bilsport’ in the ‘Victoriahallen’ of Älvsjö at the outskirts of Sweden’s capital Stockholm. The claimed motivation was: “With enthusiasm and in an admirable way she has supported her husband as well as their two sons to international successes all around the world.”

Susann, by then Kenneth’ fiancé and competing under her maiden name Bergvall, was a successfull Rallycross driver herself. In 1994 she became the second winner of the ‘ERA 1400 Cup’, the by then still unofficial European Rallycross Championship for drivers of Group N cars with engines up to 1400cc. When the ERA cup series was adopted by the FIA in 1995 she had a severe accident in the first round at Fuglau in Austria, eventually finished the season as fifth overall, but subsequently quit as a driver to concentrate on the organisation of the KHM team and later to back the growing racing activities of the two sons, Timmy Hansen (2012 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup) and his younger brother Kevin Hansen (2012 JRX Cup in the ERC).
