Bodo Hartkopp (DoB 07.04.1943 – DoD 28.12.2011)

We at RallycrossWorld.com are sad to have learned about the recent death of former German Rallycross driver Bodo Hartkopp, who died after a short illness at the age of 68 years. Hartkopp was one of the leading German Rallycross competitors of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The Volkswagen campaigner used to drive a Mk1 Golf GTI in the up to 1600cc category of the so-called ‘Internationaler Estering-Pokal’ series, the by then still unofficial German Rallycross Championship. After Hartkopp became third overall of the 1979 Estering series and the runner-up to make-colleague Harald Ganschof in 1980, in 1981 the man from Achim-Baden in Lower Saxony made the German Rallycross Cup his as well as claiming the Danish Rallycross Championship -1600cc too. After this three successful seasons Hartkopp retired from the sport to concentrate on his car business.
