Coox to replace Fabia by Scirocco

Belgian Rallycross ace Jochen Coox has made himself a late Christmas present. The proprietor of Volkswagen/Audi dealerships from Rekem today released the news that he has ordered a brandnew VW Scirocco Supercar from the stables of Ingvar Gunnarsson in Sweden, to replace his ex-Lars Larsson ERC winning Škoda Fabia I by the nickname of ‘Helga 1’. However, the new car will not be ready for action before next June or July and, therefore, Coox is looking forward to race the Volkswagen in the second half of the 2012 season.

“That my new car would have to come from the Volkswagen group was never under question. But while I fancied the idea of getting a VW Polo, especially as the factory itself is going to use the Polo for the World Rally Championship soon, the Swedes convinced me to set my jetons on the VW Scirocco instead. I talked a lot with the Gunnarsson and Trollspeed people before taking my decision. The wheel-base of the Scirocco is very similar to the Ford Focus wheel-base, while the Polo is shorter. That could possibly make the Polo a pretty nervous car in the hands of a Rallycross competitor. So, my Swedish partners persuaded me to have a go for the bigger car and I hope to get it ready in time for the Belgian ERC round at Maasmechelen,” said an enthusiastic Coox today.
