Block confirms Rallycross

Ken Block has confirmed that he will take part in Rallycross events for the first time in 2012. The American rally driver who shot to fame with his spectacular Gymkhana videos, had been tipped to shift his attention away from rallying and to try his hand at Rallycross, but had not confirmed any details. Block’s only taste of Rallycross competition came in this year’s X Games, although problems with his new Fiesta VII cut short the amount of running he got in that event.

Talking to Bill Wood in this week’s Tech House and Speed radio show, Block said he will spend more time competing in the US in 2012. “I’ve not settled the budgets yet, we’re busy with that now, but Rallycross is a big priority. I really enjoy the driving and the door-to-door competition we had at X Games, it’s an amazing way to drive these incredibly built cars and I will do the whole Global Rallycross series here in the States next year,” said Block who is also working on plans to expand his Gymkhana World Tour to five or six events in 2012.

Alongside the Rallycross events, Block will return to the Rally America series, “I’m definitely going to do the 100 Acre Woods Rally in Missouri and I’d like to do more events but it depends if Rally America can resolve the date conflicts with Global Rallycross. I will do what I can in the WRC, definitely not a full championship, but as many as I can within the budget and schedule,” he said.

We can’t believe that there are any of you who have not seen the Gymkhana videos (just search for them in YouTube), but we thought you might like a chuckle at this take on the concept.
