Tohill’s class change

Derek Tohill will change classes this weekend when he drives in the British Rallycross Grand Prix event in an RX150 owned by Andy Scott. The Irishman had originally planned to run his ERC TouringCar Ford Fiesta VII in the Croft event.

That plan was put in doubt when the car suffered an engine problem at Mondello Park last month, Tohill initially reluctant to rush an engine rebuild just to make Croft when it would mean the engine being worked on again after the event in order to make the planned performance upgrades. At the beginning of this week, however, a work around solution appeared to be in place and he made an entry for the event with the Fiesta. Last night plans changed again when it became clear the Fiesta would not be ready after all.

“I’ve got so much going on here with business that we haven’t had time to sort everything out. I was going to cancel and then I was offered the chance to drive an RX150 instead. I’ve been interested in driving one of those for a while, it would be a great thing to have one for national events and keep my hand in with rear-drive techniques, so I’m looking forward to having a go at Croft,” said Tohill. Competing at Croft in the RX150 will mean Tohill has raced three different classes this year; his TouringCar in the ERC, Hot Hatch/Stock Hatch in the British and Irish championships and the RX150 ‘buggy’.
