German championship at Schlüchtern

The second 2011 event at the Ewald-Pauli-Ring at Schlüchtern in Hesse was round six as well as the finale of the German Rallycross Championship (DRX). Both title aspirants, René Münnich (Supercar) and Rolf Volland (Super1600), won their respective A final, thereby ending the international German series with the maximum of points each. The friends claimed six victories in six events, but as the German ASN has only a title for a merged point standings on offer the DMSB had to award one gold medal to each of the two class winners.

The SuperNational category of the event was won by Rallycross veteran Hans Kirchhof, the Porsche 911 GT3 driver thereby also grabbed the national German Rallycross title. The DRX Cup for drivers of Division 5 cars went to youngster Björn Barkhoff, while his strongest opponent Björn Brüning-Zedler made it to fifth place only at Schlüchtern. “I claimed the pole position for the A final and won its start, but only to realise within nearly no time that I had chosen for the completely wrong tyres,” said the DRX Cup runner-up “BBZ” later on.
