Just when you thought it was safe…

Just as it appeared that the event may finally be dragged back on schedule and that there was a chance of the finals being started at 1500, a crash between David Binks and Alexander Hvaal in the third heat for Supercars has produced a long delay.
The crash happened when Binks’ Fiesta picked up a right rear puncture and slid wide exiting the last corner. Hvaal went to the inside of Binks in an effort to pass but there was contact between the two cars, Hvaal’s Fiesta flipping over Binks’ car, sending the newer car slamming into the barrier. Hvaal’s car rolled onto its roof and slid down the track to the first corner before coming to rest. Both drivers have been taken from the track to hospital in Česká Lípa for precautionary checks. The crash happened at 1348, racing resuming with a re-run of the stopped race at 1426. There is now another race stoppage, Liam Doran having rolled in the Joker Lap…
Things have been less dramatic elsewhere, Andreas Bakkerud setting fastest time in Super1600 to take pole for the A final ahead of Krzysztof Skorupski. In the battle for third place in the TouringCar championship, Derek Tohill holds the upper hand having qualified second on the A final grid, alongside Lars Øivind Enerberg, with rival Koen Pauwels third.
