Norway’s day – again

In a fitting end to the European Rallycross Championship, the three incoming champions each won their A finals in the Czech Republic, Norwegian drivers Sverre Isachsen, Andreas Bakkerud and Lars Øivind Enerberg climbing to the top step of the podium in Supercar, Super1600 and TouringCar respectively.

Each won their A finals relatively easily in the end, Isachsen facing perhaps the sternest challenge as Frode Holte ran side-by-side with his compatriot for about half of the first lap before ceding the place. From there on it was pretty well all over. Holte slowing later in the race and slipping to fifth while Kenneth Hansen delivered a typically classy drive and picked his way through to second place on the DS3’s second outing. Tanner Foust and Timur Timerzyanov were next up, the Russian doing enough here to put his name to second place in the series – for the time being at least. Mats Lysen ran in the top three until rolling out in the penultimate lap.

Enerberg’s run to TouringCar glory was like a demonstration run and the only real interest was for second which eventually went to Roman Castoral whose early Joker Lap worked better than Derek Tohill’s late one. Tohill’s third place, however, was enough to secure third in the championship.

Bakkerud led the S1600 final all the way. Krzysztof Skorupski came through to place second in the race, and snatch third in the championship, ahead of Ulrik Linnemann (fourth on the track here) while Steven Bossard’s strong run here gave him third place on the day.

The only real controversy of the finals came in the Supercar C final where Pavel Koutny won a prolonged battle with Andy Scott after pushing the leader off the track at the start of the last lap. Koutny appeared on the B final grid but, after a ‘discussion’ was sent packing and replaced by Per Eklund who had previously won the D final ahead of René Münnich.
