Portuguese championship at Montalegre

Nobody expected any big surprises before the fifth and final round of the Portuguese Rallycross Championship at Montalegre as the title chase had almost been decided prior to the event and needed just another confirmation. As most of their competitors had been absent the ‘action’ in Division 1 remained with Pedro Matos and Rui Sirgado. The first did not take too much risk than trying to control the latter and while the Peugeot driver eventually won the finale the D1 title went to the Citroën campaigner.

In Division 2 there was a similar situation, but title favourite João Sousa was able to claim another victory to ensure himself the title. His strongest opponents, Nuno Ralha and Paulo Reis were both hampered by mechanical problems of their cars and at the end of the weekend had to be contend with the second and respectively third place in the final point standings.

While brother Pedro arrived at Montalegre in a safer position in Division 1 his sister Ana Matos still had to fear bad luck during the event. However, her 4WD Mitsubishi Colt was reliable thoughout the last race of the five round series and after becoming the runner-up to Bruno Lima in Division 5 the Rallycross lady was able to celebrate her first gold trophy.

Although Pedro Ribeiro made the A final of the Initiation Trophy competitors [13 to 15 years of age] his the 2011 cup had already been claimed by Toyota driver Rafael Lobato prior to Montalegre. This time Lobato became the runner-up while Peugeot man Hugo Lopes completed the podium as third.
