Tracks and stats

Three dozen ERC events at Valkenswaard.

This weekend’s Dutch event, the Autodrop 7th round of the European Rallycross Championship, is the 36th ERC event to be held at the Eurocircuit – the oldest bespoke Rallycross venue in the world, opened in April 1971.

The Valkenswaard track has been out of the championship for 1997 and 1998 as well as the last couple of years and may otherwise have been the most used circuit in the championship. As it is, that honour goes to another of the long established tracks, the Estering at Buxtehude which in 2010 has hosted the championship for the 37th time. Of course, Buxtehude too has been in and out of the series for 1983 and recently, so it too may justly stake a claim to have been able to run more events. And, on that score, Lydden, with 26 events to it’s credit, could point to those years in which the ERC was absent from Great Britain, or has been to other venues in the UK [Croft, Brands Hatch, Pembrey].

Among the traditional tracks that still hold a place at international level, the Duivelsbergcircuit at Maasmechelen remains a regular halt for the European championship contenders and last week ran a points scoring event for the 32nd time since 1973.
