Setup gamble pays off for De Keersmaecker.

“Yesterday was not good,” said Michael De Keersmaecker, “We tried something different in the setup and it did not work, so we tried something else for the warm-up this morning and the car is fantastic. Now we have left it alone and it’s working very well, this is the first time I have been on pole in the Supercar. I’m confident about my driving and the car, the questions are the braking point for the first corner, and tyre choice: we are discussing wets with big tread blocks, wets with small tread blocks or even the dry tyre. It could dry enough for the dry if does not rain again, and I am sure it will be best for the start but you will probably lose time in the gravel so there’s a question…”

While De Keersmaecker ponders his choice of tyre for the final, his engineers are busy replacing the power steering pump on the Focus – for the second time today – and also repairing the exhaust. “There is a problem with the steering because we should not have to replace the pump twice. The exhaust has a small crack and we will weld that up, I’m not worried about either of those, it’s the tyres that are making me think.” said De Keersmaecker who, should he win this afternoon, will be the first driver to bag a victory in all three of the current classes.
