Lysen rolls

Supercar star rolls in free practice.

The second free practice session was halted when Mats Lysen rolled his Renault Clio in the left-handed hairpin in the middle of the Duivelsberg lap. The Norwegian was not hurt in the incident and the car appears to have suffered relatively light damage.

“I just touched the kerb on the inside and car suddenly gripped and then rolled over,” said Lysen as he walked from the medical centre back to his team in the paddock, “It rolled on the asphalt but did not feel hard so I hope that there is not much damage and that we can race this afternoon.”

Returned to his team, the Clio has suffered body damage where it rolled and broken left rear suspension. With timed practice ude to start any moment now, the team is unlikely to get the car back to the track in time for Lysen to set a time, a situation which will leave in the earliest race when the qualifying heats begin later this afternoon. Before he rolled Lysen had set second fastest time in the session, 0.244s behind Davy Jeanney who was fastest and a similar margin ahead of Liam Doran.
