Mika Salo to do Rallycross event

Former Formula One racer set to compete in Joensuu SM round.

According to Finnish TV station MTV3 and its website mtv3.fi former Formula One pilot and current MTV3 F1 commentator Mika Salo is set to compete in round 5 of the Finnish Rallycross Championship at the Joensuun Rallicrossrata of Joensuu on Saturday August 6. The car will be the ex-Rustam Minnikhanov and ex-Martti Simonen 530+bhp Ford Fiesta VI Supercar recently used by WRC star Mikko Hirvonen for SM round 4 at Kauhajoki. The Finn has already performed a test drive with the Fiesta ERC at Hyvinkää and, following claims of car owner Hannu Lappalainen, subsequently was very eager to take part in the Joensuu event. Salo, who raced in a total of 111 Formula One events, has some experience of loose surface racing after competing with a four-wheel driven Group N car in Rallying before.
