Tyres get a natural warm-up before warm-up.
The second day of the Norwegian ERC round has dawned brighter and warmer than the first and teams in the paddock have been fast to make use of the natural warmth; wheels and tyres have been laid out on the asphalt service roads to gain some heat before they are fitted to the cars.
“It makes a difference,” said René Münnich, “Not just the temperature that wheels and tyres get but the pressure goes up maybe 0.2 or 0.3 bar so you can adjust that before you drive the car and the performance is better. It’s more important with the Super1600 cars because it’s so difficult to get temperature into the rear tyres with those cars.”
