Briton David Higgins claims a new record for the ‘Climb To The Clouds’.

Current US Rallycross driver David Higgins from Great Britain has set a new overall record for the Mount Washington hillclimb in America. The Manxman, who lives in Wales, drove his by the Subaru Rally Team USA prepared Subaru Impreza GR during his first full distance attempt on Sunday morning to a time of 6 Minutes and 19 Seconds and broke the 13-year-old record of Frank Sprongl set in 1998 with 6:41.99m. On Sunday afternoon Higgins raced even faster and was clocked with a new record time of 6:11.54m. Thereby the Briton was also about 9 Seconds faster than US superstar Travis Pastrana, who drove up the ‘Mount Washington Auto Road’ in an unofficial 6:20.47m record time with a similar SRT USA Impreza in the autumn of last year to promote the return of the famous hillclimb in 2011. The with trees and dramatic drop-offs lined serpentine road up to the 1,917 metres high summit of Mount Washington is 12.2 kilometres long and goes over tarmac and gravel surface. The hillclimb was first driven in 1904 and, thereby, is predating the more famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) that saw its first ever running in 1916.
