Champion Isachsen drove C final with broken thumb.

Reigning European Rallycross Champion Sverre Isachsen had a mixed weekend at Essay in France. After sending his two engines immediately from Portugal to England, where Julian Godfrey replaced a new American turbocharger by one that was already used in 2010, the Norwegian was able to set the second fastest time in practice, but was still not happy with the power output of his motor. “The car was not running well and I had no chance in the first and second runs. However, in the third heat I was black flagged after a collision with another car [the Citroën C4 of French Christophe Wilt]. That was okay, but I broke my left thumb in the incident, as the steering wheel slammed back. Later I’ve tried to drive the C final with the hurt hand, but it was very difficult and the day was done. Nevertheless, I’m not disappointed as one may think. No, because at least we found out about our problems with the turbocharger and now we’re looking forward to my home event at Lånke next month,” said the Ford Focus driver on Sunday evening.

Update of May 24: According to Isachsen the fracture is worse than expected. “The doctors say it will take four to eight weeks for my thumb to recover. But there are only four weeks left till the Norwegian ERC round at Lånke. That event is the most important one for me this season, so the thumb has to be fixed by then,” said Sverre Isachsen by Tuesday noon.
