New starting system in France.

This weekend is the 3rd round for the European Rallycross Championship at the Circuit des Ducs at Essay near Alençon in France. With 92 drivers divided over the three ERC classes this is more than twice as many as last week at Montalegre in Portugal. France is going to use a new fully automatic starting system. The system is already in use in races counting for the French championship. The old ‘5 Seconds’ sign is gone now. Instead France is showing a blue light just before the green starting light goes on. This blue light is part of the automatic starting procedure. The starting system begins with a push on the start-button in the tower of the race control. The blue light will be shown for 3 seconds. Then the blue light goes off. That means that after the 3 seconds of blue, the green light comes up between 0.5 to 2 seconds. The total starting lights procedure takes approximately 5 seconds, explained Clerk of the Course Yves Guillon.
