Belgian championship, Buxtehude

Jochen Coox has won his first race for the Belgian Rallycross Championship.

Leader in the A final of the Supercars Patrick Van Mechelen, had to give away the lead after problems with the gearbox of his Subaru. Coox and Van Mechelen where battling it out for the victory of the Supercars. The Joker Lap brought Van Mechelen in the lead, but… a few laps later the gearbox of the Subaru failed and that gave Coox the opportunity to pass the leading Impreza. However, Van Mechelen remains in the lead of the Belgian championship with 10 point ahead of Coox.

In the Super1600 class Belgian driver Davy Van Den Branden scored his second win this year in the Belgian series. Dennis Remans (Ford Fiesta) was second and crossed the line just before Dutchman Marcel Snoeijers. By scoring the maximum of 20 points Van Den Branden takes now over the leadership in the Super1600 from Dutchman Snoeijers. The margin is small,  just 1 point in favour of Van Den Branden. Remans is 8 points behind and third in the standings. For the Belgian championship there are still three more races to run, all at the Duivelsbergcircuit at Maasmechelen.

In the SuperNationals Luc Maris (Volvo S40 II) scored his second victory of this year. His son Steven Maris is in the lead after four races, with a margin of 10 points ahead of Kristof Bex. Koen Pauwels was absent, preparing for the ERC round of Portugal. Guino Kenis, (see our RallycrossWorld story “Kenis pulls out of Rallycross”), he rented out his BMW 120i to Pedro Bonnet. Bonnet is still waiting for the delivery of his TouringCar Volvo C30. Another ERC regular, Patrick Mertens, pulled out of the race with technical problems of his VW Polo already in the beginning of the race. The best ‘business’ in the TouringCars was done by the 18-year-old daughter of former European Rallycross Champion Ko Kasse, Mandy Kasse. With a third place in the race that was won by Pedro Bonnet, Mandy is now equal in points with leader Koen Pauwels. Koen and Mandy are sharing the lead in the TouringCars category of the Belgian championship having each 57 points.
